Cougars Complete Historic Season

The Conestoga Christian varsity boys basketball team began their season with high hopes as they returned four starters from last year.  There was also a buzz in the air as they were bringing in a class of four freshmen who would see varsity play.  Senior Daniel Boyer and junior Blake Greenly captained the team as they continued to improve throughout the season.

The Cougars began their season with a five-point loss to Christian School of York, but, as they would do all season, they did not get discouraged and proceeded to win their next five games.  At the conclusion of the regular season, the boys found themselves just outside of league play-offs but qualified for District III play as the seventh seed.  A win in the first round meant that CCS was guaranteed at least two more games as five teams from District III Class A make the PIAA state tournament.  A second-round loss placed the Cougars in the playback bracket against CCAC West Division champions, West Shore Christian.  The Cougars iced the game from the free throw line late in the game and won 54 – 50.  The next game was against cross-town rival and CCAC Champion, High Point Baptist, with a bid to PIAA state playoffs on the line.  After an extremely close first half, High Point came out and went up by 14 at the end of the third quarter.  When many thought the game was over, Conestoga Christian put on the full-court press and began to climb back into the game.  As the fourth quarter wound down, Conestoga Christian pulled ahead and again put the game away from the free throw line.

The win over High Point placed Conestoga Christian into the PIAA state playoffs for the first time in school history.  The boys were elated and wanted to keep the season rolling.  In the first round match-up against Susquehanna Community High School, the Cougars found themselves down by 13 early in the game.  Drawing on the experience they had in their district games, the boys clawed their way back and tied the game with 40 seconds to play.  Unfortunately, this time the boys lost by 4 points as the Warriors put the game away from the line.

Congratulations to the Conestoga Christian Cougars Varsity Boys Basketball Team on their historic season (16-11).

The start of each athletic season is always exciting, and this season is no different.  In addition, basketball season always has the unknown of a potential snow storm, and who doesn’t like that?  While it was snowing this past Saturday, both the high school girls and boys teams were heating it up inside.  The girls faced off against Berks Christian as they looked to rebound from Friday’s loss to Christian School of York.  The Lady Cougars won handedly 45-17.  The boys came up nine points short Friday night to Christian School of York and faced a tall Salem Christian School team in the consolation game on Saturday.  The boys started slowly but gained momentum going into the second half and finished with a 55-51 win.  Two of the Conestoga Christian players, Montana Schwinn and Blake Greenly, were named to the All-Tournament team for the Cougar Classic.  For an up-to-date middle school and high school basketball schedule click HERE.

Middle School Basketball Concludes Their Season

The middle school boys "B" team concluded their season with an extremely close game vs. Berks Christian on Monday, February 6.  Showing improvements from game to game, the Cougars finished with a season high of 31 points in the game.

On Friday, February 10, CCS held the 4th annual Conestoga Hoops Shootout.  The event included the boys and girls teams from Dayspring, Linville Hill, and Lancaster Mennonite Hershey.  The action began at 3:30 with the CCS girls losing to Linville Hill.  Their last game of the season came in the consolation game vs. Lancaster Mennonite Hershey; the girls played well but lost a close one.  The boys handily won their opening game vs. Linville Hill and then played in the championship game vs. Dayspring, concluding at 9:45 with a win for the Cougar boys.  All-Tournament Team honors were given to Alexis Kohler, Collin Weaver, and Spencer Colón.

On Saturday, February 11, the middle school boys "A" team concluded their season at the Lititz Christian Tournament.  This tournament was round-robin format, allowing the boys to play three games.  The Cougars fought back from an early 8 - 0 deficit in their opening game vs. Lancaster Mennonite Kraybill to win 24 - 21.  While playing their fourth game in less than 20 hours, fatigue set in, and the boys dropped a 22-26 heart breaker to Lititz Christian.  The boys regrouped and played their last game of the season vs. Manheim Christian just 30 minutes later.  After a shaky start, the Cougars found themselves down 0 - 6; gritty play put CCS up by three at the half.  The Cougars came out firing on all cylinders the second half, extending their lead to as much as 15 and won 33-20.  Congratulations to the boys as they finished 2 and 1 making them the Tournament Champions.  Conrad Yoder was named to the All-Tournament Team.  The boys capped off this memorable season with a record of 18-3.
